This project is based on the concession contract of build-operate-transfer of the Gojan, Gjegjan, Peshqesh and Ura e Fanit/Fangut Hydroelectrical Power Plants on Fan Rivers of Albania. The objective of this project activity is the generation of renewable energy with negligible green house gas (GHG) emissions and a minimum impact on environment. The electricity produced will be supplied to the Albanian Grid compensating at some extent for the deficiency in the Albanian power sector.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Fani i Madh and Fani i Vogel hydroelectric power plant is a project planned to harness the hydro potential of the aforementioned rivers in districts of Mirdite and Puke, in north of Albania. The objective of this project activity is the generation of renewable energy with negligible GHG emissions and a minimum impact on environment. The electricity produced will be supplied to the Albanian Grid compensating at some extent for the deficiency in the Albanian power supply.

The project “Fani i Madh & Fani i Vogel in the Puke and Mirdite districts for exploitation of hydro energy capabilities” comprises four hydropower projects in a cascade through the development of the upper and lower basin of Fan i Madh River and Fan i Vogel River. These projects are entitled as FHP1 – Gojan, FHP2 – Gjegjan, FHP3 – Peshqesh and FHP4 – Ura e Fanit/Fangu, with FHP as an abbreviation for Fani Hydropower Plant.

Based on the optimization studies about Water Utilization and Project Implementation of Fani I Madh and Fani I Vogel, the optimal elevation range, has been determined as 428.00 to 34.00 m.a.s.l..

The first two hydropower plants (Gojan, Gjegjan) will utilize the upper stream of Fan i Madh River. The other two (Peshqesh, Ura e Fanit/Fangu) will utilize the hydropower capacities of both Fan i Madh and Fan i Vogel Rivers. The Fan i Vogel River deviates to Fan i Madh near Shkoret village, in Orosh commune. The first three power plants FHP1, FHP2, FHP3 are run-off-river power plants, meanwhile the fourth one is Dam Storage based power plant.

During the implementation of this project, new infrastructure will be constructed in the communes of Orosh, Gjegjan, village of Peshqesh i Poshtem, Rreshen and Rubik, contributing to economic growth, improved standard of life of the local people. It has been estimated number of 1000 people will be employed during the construction and operational phases. Know-how and personnel training on local level are also important benefits from the project. At the end of the 35 years agreement, the project will be handed over to the Albanian government.
